Economisch ontwikkelde Nobelprijswinnaar

In een recente blog hebben we de financiële steun van de Nobelprijswinnaars van EU aan de moslimbroederschap in Egypte  aan de orde gesteld. In die blog ging het om de miljoenen euro's die Mohammed Mursi, de Egyptische president en ex-leider van de moslimbroederschap, van de EU heeft gekregen. De reden voor deze financiële steun aan Mursi en co was de volgende:

"De Europese Unie heeft donderdag miljoenen euro's extra steun beloofd voor democratische en economische ontwikkelingen in Egypte. Dat heeft de voorzitter van de Europese Commissie, José Manuel Barroso, bekendgemaakt na afloop van een gesprek in Brussel met de Egyptische president Mohammed Mursi."

Deze reden is nogal opmerkelijk, want dit is wat democratische ontwikkeling in het Egypte van Mursi en zijn moslimbroederschap daadwerkelijk betekent:

"The Simon Wiesenthal Center on Monday reiterated its call to US President Barack Obama to sever ties with the Muslim Brotherhood after Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi attended a prayer service during which an Islamic cleric called for the Jews to be destroyed. According to the Center, Egypt’s Channel 1 broadcast cleric Futouh Abd Al-Nabi Mansour's sermon in which he prayed: "Oh Allah, destroy the Jews and their supporters. Oh Allah, disperse them, rend them as under. Oh Allah, demonstrate Your might and greatness upon them." (lees hier)

"Saad al-Katatny was elected chairman of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, Egyptian media reported Friday. He beat out FJP’s acting leader Essam al- Erian in a vote that took place October 6 [...] In this respect, Katatny was quoted as saying that “The Muslim Brotherhood established the [FJP] to represent the Brotherhood’s political project, which, in the end, will be a wise government that will institute Islamic Shari’a law.” (lees hier)

"Last week in Egypt, when Muslim Brotherhood supporters terrorized the secular media, several Arabic websites—including Arab News, Al Khabar News, Dostor Watany, and Egypt Now—reported that people were being “crucified.” [...] That there were attacks and violence—both in front of Egypt’s presidential palace and at major media facilities, is well-documented. An August 9 report by El Balad, a widely read Egyptian website, gives the details: Last Wednesday, August 8, “thousands of the Muslim Brotherhood’s supporters” attacked 6-October’s media facilities, beat Khaled Salah—chief editor of the privately-owned and secular Youm 7 newspaper—prevented Yusif al-Hassani, an On TV broadcaster, from entering the building, and generally “terrorized the employees.”" (lees hier)

"Several recent moves by government authorities against Egyptian journalists have drawn sharp criticism from the news media and led to accusations that the country’s new Islamist president is willing to tolerate — if not employ — the same heavy-handed tactics used by former President Hosni Mubarak to stifle dissent.Last week, the authorities suspended a satellite television channel that featured a program whose host is Tawfik Okasha, a strident opponent of President Mohamed Morsi, a former leader in the Muslim Brotherhood. On Saturday, the authorities confiscated copies of the daily newspaper Al Dustour, which has published regular condemnations of the Islamist group." (lees hier)

Als je deze feiten zo bij elkaar ziet, zou je bijna gaan denken dat ze daar bij de EU genocidale Jodenhaat, gewelddadig religieus fanatisme en ondermijning van de persvrijheid als noodzakelijke voorwaarden voor een goed-functionerende democratie beschouwen. Maar dat bedoelen onze Nobelprijswinnaars natuurlijk niet. Nee, het probleem volgens hen is de gebrekkige economische ontwikkeling van dat land. De genoemde anti-democratische kenmerken van de Egyptische politiek komen voort uit armoede. Dus, door veel geld in dat land te pompen zou het zich economisch gaan ontwikkelen en dan zou de moslimbroederschap vanzelf de Egyptische afdeling van Amnesty International worden.

Het is nogal opmerkelijk, dat onze trotse Nobelprijswinnaars geheel niet door hebben dat zij zelf het levende bewijs zijn dat deze vermeende oorzakelijke relatie tussen economische ontwikkeling en democratie niet altijd opgaat.
