Berichten uit Lalaland

Op deze blog zijn wij vaker stil gestaan bij de onnavolgbare uitspattingen van onze vrienden bij de VN en de EU. De lijst is helaas weer langer geworden:

“GENEVA, Nov. 23 – UNESCO’s executive board, which includes the US, France, the UK and other Western democracies, unanimously elected Syria to a pair of committees – one dealing directly with human rights issues – even as the Bashar al-Assad regime maintains its campaign of violence against its own citizens. The Arab group at UNESCO nominated Syria for the spots, and though the 58-member board approved the pick by consensus on Nov. 11, the agency has not yet posted the results on its website.[…] ‘It’s shameful for the UN's prime agency on science, culture and education to take a country that is shooting its own people and empower it to decide human rights issues on a global scale. Regrettably, the pressure to bow to consensus –  part of the go-along-to-get-along tradition at the UN – can drag everyone down to the will of the lowest common denominator’.” (zie hier)

Er valt hier weinig aan toe te voegen, behalve dat dit recente besluit van UNESCO onze eerdere argumenten over de bijzondere logica van de VN ondersteunt: het legaliteitsbegrip van de VN is een leeg formalisme, dat allen per toeval tot beslissingen kan leiden die enigszins met de officiële waarden en doelstellingen van de VN overeenkomen. En nu over naar de uitspattingen van onze vertegenwoordigers bij het Europese parlement:

“Amidst Europe’s worst economic crisis in recent memory, the European Parliament (EP) has just decided to raise Europe’s aid to the Palestinians by €100 million - 30 percent more than previous years. At the end of tough negotiations among the European Union’s institutions over the 2012 budget, the EP somehow made room for an additional €18 billion over the €129 billion cap imposed by expenditures-wary EU member states.  Among the additional line items is that extra €100 million for the Palestinians. An extra €100 million may not seem like that much compared to an overall budget of €147 billion for 2012, but it cannot be ignored that this is money the EU does not have. Moreover, the EU is pledging taxpayer money at a time when the only guarantee it will be spent responsibly has just disappeared. The EU budget decision was sealed just days before a highly anticipated summit between Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas and Khaled Meshal of Hamas – a designated terrorist group in the EU.” (lees verder)

We hebben al eerder op deze blog opgemerkt dat onze meesters in Brussel in een zelfgemaakte fantasiewereld leven waar de echte werled geen ingang meer heeft. Tegen de achtergrond van de steeds erger wordende economische crisis en de politieke omwentelingen in het Midden-Oosten, wordt dit alleen maar duidelijker. Onze meesters zien Palestijnse leiders zoals Abbas niet voor wat ze werkelijk zijn (zie hier). Voor onze meesters in Brussel zijn Abbas en zijn kornuiten de belichaming van hun eigen post-koloniale en multiculturele fantasieën.
